I’m finally getting around to posting the two cards I made with Simon Says Stamp’s July card kit. I have to admit that I’m not that big on nautical themes, but I do love the waves stamp and the patterned 6×6 papers that I get to add to my collection. I think I mentioned before that the waves, when stamped/embossed in white, especially on a dark blue background, sort of remind me of sashiko embroidery.
For the first card, I wanted to play up the potential for layering. I stamped a couple groupings of waves and colored them with Copics. I added a bit of Wink of Stella (which is totally not showing up in the photo) and (more than) a touch of a white gel pen. I cut them out and used foam dots to adhere. I think the bottom/front waves have two layers of foam dots for extra lift. I stamped and Copiced (sure, that’s a word) the sail boat, cut it out, and positioned it so that it was sort of between the waves. This is definitely a padded-envelope kind of card. Thankfully, I doubt I’ll be sending it anywhere.
For the second card, I used that waves stamp again, this time heat embossing almost an entire panel’s worth. Then I got out the watercolors and painted a sort of ombre of blue. Can you spot the booboo I made? I got a little cocky thinking that I could paint and heat at the same time. Do you know what that does? It melts the embossing powder (as it should) and then the watercolor kind of ruins it. So I re-stamped and re-embossed that wave, which really only made it worse. What is one to do? Cover that #&%! up with a tag!
More cards coming up! Thanks for stopping by 🙂
