Sending Hedgehugs

Hello friends! You guys, I seriously can’t get over these hedgehogs! I’ve had this set for quite awhile, but haven’t made anything with it until now. I was looking through my stash for something to make a whimsical get well card, and I think these hedgehogs from My Favorite Things are really on point.

I wanted to do some no-line watercolor, so I started off by stamping the top hedgie with Distress Ink in antique linen onto some Canson cold-press watercolor paper (just some cheap stuff from the big box craft store). Then I masked it with a post-it (just trimmed the bottom) and stamped the next hedgie. Rinse and repeat. I did the same for the mushrooms. Then I got out my watercolors (Sennelier, still love them) and started painting. Minimal color mixing here – I was able to control the color with water. I mixed a little burnt sienna and warm sepia to shade the hedgies’ spines. I added white dots to the mushroom caps with a white gel pen.

I used a stitched rectangle die to cut the panel down and and adhered it to an A2 top-folding card base (Whip Cream from My Favorite Things – my favorite to pair with watercolor paper).

That’s it for today, thanks for stopping by!
