Hi friends! Can I tell you a secret? Ok maybe it’s not that much of a secret, but still. I am obsessed with all the Little things with their respective agendas. You know, that series of stamps from Mama Elephant? Crazy about them. I have all of them. They all kill me with their adorableness. Adorability? Whatever, they’re cute. The Santas and reindeer particularly are killing me with cute these days.
These stamps are perfect for creating a custom background for your cards, as I did for the card I’m sharing with you today. This is a technique that I just love doing – I don’t have to worry about constructing a scene or following a sketch. Sometimes it’s just fun to stamp sorta randomly.
First I stamped the sentiment from the Puffy Holiday Greetings set so I knew where my Santas and reindeer would fit around it. I often place the sentiment last and get frustrated because I didn’t leave myself room. So you might also find it useful to place the sentiment first. Then I stamped my little things with their respective agendas all over the panel, not worrying about images hanging off the edges. I filled in some of the white space with the smaller images from the Little Santa set (the bag and presents). It’s a balancing act – you don’t necessarily want to place your images too close together because it can look too busy. But you don’t want a ton of white space with this technique either. I started around the sentiment – I thought it would be cute if a couple of the images “played” with the sentiment – and then continued down the card, alternating between Santa and his reindeer.
Then I set to coloring, using Copic markers. This took a while. My neck got stiff.
Once I finished all the coloring (all. the. coloring.), I ran the panel through my diecut machine with a stitched rectangle die. This would totally be fine as a simple one layer card, but I wanted to trim the panel with some red, so out came the stitched rectangle!
I adhered my layers onto my top-folding A2 card base and there you have it! A holly and oh so jolly christmas card! If you’re interested, I listed materials at the end of this post.
