For my favorite human

My husband and I are silly people. We refer to our dogs as our friend beasts. We spent a road trip casting an all animal production of Hamilton that we called Mammalton. So naturally I needed to make him a Valentine that captured our special relationship.

I used the More Monsters set from My Favorite Things, stamping two of the monsters in pale ink (bubblegum and grout grey). These are solid images, but I intended to color them with Copic markers and pencil so I wanted a light base layer. I put the Copic layers down first, using W1,3,5 for the monster on the left and RV17,19 for the monster on the right (also Y13,17 for the eyes and warts). I used a black Copic illustrator pen to add the pupils in the eyes and the mouth lines. Then I grabbed some matching colored pencils and added texture using quick strokes. Monsters are totally hairy, right? Makes them cuddlier. I also used a white pencil to add highlights. On the eyes and for their respective snaggleteeth, I used a white gelly pen. I then stamped some hearts from an older Valentine’s set in bubblegum and added some pencil to shade and highlight. I trimmed the panel using a stitched rectangle die and adhered it to my card base with craft foam for dimension. I’m kind of stingy with my craft foam. But my husband is craft foam worthy.

I’m entering this into MFT Color Challenge #87:

Craft foam worthy! You crack me up. Also, how did I not know about friend beasts? Your writing style is so engaging! And this card is so amazing. I love their cuddly little monster furs. I need to take a series of coloring classes from you.
