I thought I would wait a couple of days before sharing my next card, but I wanted to play this card in the MFT sketch challenge (#373) and what do you know, it closes tomorrow! Oh darn, I guess I’ll just have to go ahead and share it now 🙂
Here’s my card:
For this card, I used the Somebunny I Love set from My Favorite Things. I stamped the sleeping bunny and teddy bear images with Grout Grey dye ink (for the no-line look) and colored the darling images with Prismacolor pencils – see the end of this post for a complete color list. The advantage of using pencil for an image like the bunny and bear is that you can add lots of texture. Keep your pencil sharpener handy because you really want those points pointy so you can get fine lines of fur. My coloring “secret”? Start with a light hand and layer, layer, layer that color. You can build up, but you can’t really take away.
Can I just say? I wish I slept half as soundly as this bun bun.
Anyway. I die cut the images and set them aside. I grabbed another piece of white cardstock, stamped the moon and stars, and carefully put down a layer of deep blue Copic, over which I added some texture and highlights with pencil. I really like the Impressionist-esque look that happened with the night sky – it covered up the marker lines while adding some dimension and interest. I used a white gel pen to color in the stars and added some light yellow pencil for glow.
To assemble the card, I used a stitched circle die (also from MFT) to cut out the sky. Then I trimmed down a piece of white cardstock with a wonky-stitch rectangle die and then cut a corresponding hole with the circle die. I used foam tape to pop this panel up so that the sky could sit back directly on the card base. I applied the sky coloring technique to make a sentiment strip and heat embossed the sentiment and adhered the strip across the hole with foam tape. I drew in the star that hung from the moon since the strip covered it. Then I added the bun bun and its teddy bear.
I’m so tickled with how this card turned out that I’m not sure I can part with it. Thanks for visiting and have a wonderful week!
Bunny and teddy bear fur: Prismacolor 927 (base), 941, 946, 947, 948, with 935 for shading and Caran D’Ache white pencil for fine detail highlights (it has a harder core which makes it great for fine strokes).
Bed: Prismacolor 1086, 920,992, 905, 105, with 938 and 1054 for highlights and shading.
Sky and sentiment strip: Copic B39, BV08, B99 blended fairly evenly as a base. Prismacolor 906, 933, 901, 935, and Caran D’Ache white (I forgot to note which yellow I used for the stars).
