You’re my best friend

Hello friends! Today I have a card for the latest Lawn Fawnatics and Simon Says Stamp challenges. The Lawn Fawnatics challenge theme is “inspired by a book, movie, or song” and the Simon Wednesday challenge theme is to create a scene. I recently watched Bohemian Rhapsody and I’ve basically been listening to Queen ever since. I immediately had both “Bicycle Race” and “You’re My Best Friend” pop into my head when I saw this challenge theme.

I’ve been wanting to create more interactive cards, so I pulled out the Stitched Hillside Pop-up and Flower Hillside Pop-Up add-on dies and the Bicycle Built for You stamp set. I had previously stamped and colored the bunnies from Eggstra Amazing Easter so I grabbed one of them to use in this scene.

First, I cut my pieces for the pop up components. I decided I wanted to incorporate some patterned paper, so I used a couple of sheets from the new Spring Fling 6×6 paper pack. I used the “solid” (by comparison) green for the “grass” base and the green floral to create the hills. Because this is thinner paper, I reinforced the hills by also running the due through on heavyweight white card stock and then adhering the green floral cutouts on top. The green floral paper also provided the green flower stems for the flower border. I ran the individual flower dies through on some colored scrap card stock I had in my stash.

Next, I stamped the images from Bicycle Built for You and colored them with Copic markers. They look like me and my husband (I mean, I wish I was that cute, lol). The puppy and kitty look like my dog Archie and kitty Oliver (because they’re the only ones who would tolerate riding in a bicycle basket together).

Before assembling the card, I blended some Distress Oxide ink in Tumbled Glass over a mini cloud stencil (MFT) to create my sky. I stamped the butterfly trail from Butterfly Kisses and attached a couple of the butterflies from that set that I had previously colored. I had already attached the base of the main pop-up mechanism to the base of my card, so after using a stitched rectangle die to cut out the “grass”, I trimmed it so that a strip would fit over the base while the rest was positioned in front of the pop-up. I used scor-tape to adhere the flaps the base. I also decided to make the bunny pop up, so I created a tab that was scored such that it could attach to the hill, the bunny, and the ground. I originally used white card stock for this but covered it with the same green paper as the “grass” to better blend in.

To finish the card, I cut more patterned paper using smaller stitched rectangle dies to layer with a simple sentiment. And there you have it! A cute pop-up scene inspired by the music of Queen.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
